Rewind Project Scotland

A snapped string
shouldn't silence
a child's musical
potential.

A professional band uses a set of strings once. One night. One gig. Then they go in the bin - with ninety-five percent of their life remaining. Rewind captures that wealth and uses it to keep children in music tuition.

"Children from Scotland's most deprived communities are significantly less likely to learn an instrument - not because they lack ability or ambition, but because of maintenance costs their families cannot afford."

The Maintenance Tax.

Music tuition is free. Paying for costly strings, repairs, and consumables is not.

Scotland provides free music tuition in many local authorities, but tuition is not the barrier - maintenance is. A snapped string, a broken bridge, a worn bow. Small costs to most families and insurmountable costs to others.

Children in our most deprived communities are giving up their instruments not because of ability or ambition - but because of a repair bill their family cannot afford.

Meanwhile, the music industry discards tonnes of perfectly viable strings every year. Rewind closes this loop, for good.

95%
of a string's useful life typically remains when a professional musician discards it
~10
tonnes of string waste generated across the UK every year

Four ways Rewind
creates change.
